Its clinical consequences vary widely, ranging from being asymptomatic and clinically insignificant in many cases to causing dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric malignancy in others. Care must be used in deciding whom to test for H pylori infection, as a positive result mandates treatment, making broad-based screening impractical.
